THE IMPORTANCE OF IDEAS AND INFORMATION

The collection references suspended bridges. Just like a suspended bridge plays with the idea of gravity to appear both light and stiff, Hellen van Rees uses the concept of gravity and suspension to exhibit the contrast between lightness and stiffness of materials.
Inspired by the 1920’s flapper dresses that feature layes of specially treated fabrics upon layers of basic fabrics, the SS16 collection offers references to this classic silhouette with contrasting textures overlapping each other. This can be seen in light, transparent layers going into opaque, and then into chunky layers of rubber, adding a bit of an edge to the elegant skirts and dresses.
Combinations of knotting, fusing and, for the first time, knitting, creates various shapes and volumes alongside subtle details and rubber finishings, reminiscent of the structures that suspend a bridge.
